I think this would be a good story for a lot of guys.
00:02
I’m gonna be talking about just relationships.
00:04
So one of the relationships that I had with my Children
00:08
and how that can relate to relationship relationships in
00:12
your business and your business life, and maybe this
00:15
might be for you.
00:16
so before I jump into it, if you have the opportunity,
00:20
please go ahead and do the thing to like and to
00:23
subscribe to this particular channel.
00:24
and if you, if you want to comment below, please go
00:29
ahead and do the thing and comment along with me as
00:32
I tell the story.
00:33
Okay, anyway, this last summer was a great summer.
00:39
We we got to spend a lot more time as most of you
00:43
have with our family and our family pod and it allowed
00:48
us to really explore our Children a little bit differently to
00:54
see their personalities.
00:55
I remember growing up and seeing all these stories,
01:01
even all the sitcoms, the dad or the mom has that
01:06
conversation with their kids, They’re going on a walk,
01:09
you know, a little Timmy when I was your age, I did this.
01:12
Well, I thought I was going to have conversations like
01:15
that with our Children and as it turns out I had
01:19
conversations with them, but it had to be on their terms.
01:22
So taking this a couple of steps back, I remember
01:27
getting married way back in 2000 something early two
01:32
thousands and we went to a relationship counselor and
01:36
that’s the thing that you did before you get married, you
01:38
go to relationship counselor and they give you this
01:40
book, one of the books that we had was the “Five Love Languages.”
01:44
But essentially what the premise of the book was is
01:47
that everybody like to communicate differently and they
01:52
like to receive and send accolades a little bit differently
01:56
and fast forward to today.
01:58
So as our Children are getting older,
02:02
I have a lot of information that I want give to them.
02:04
But I can’t, I can’t just give it to them directly, how I communicate.
02:08
I can’t just say, hey, you know what number one, you
02:12
know what number two, this is what it is and this is how
02:15
you should do it because they won’t receive that
02:18
information as you’re giving it out and they come out as
02:20
a lecture and they come out as rude.
02:22
They may know it all. And so you have to communicate
02:25
on their terms.
02:26
And I was just thinking about how I used video games
02:31
to communicate with our Children.
02:33
So I don’t know about you but our Children are huge
02:36
into Roblox and into Minecraft and are eight year old daughter.
02:41
She’s like you know I’m probably gonna begin an I. T.
02:43
Advice from her one day.
02:45
Same thing with the sons but she’s she’s like all in and
02:50
I’m saying to myself how am I going to communicate
02:53
some of these life things and these life lessons to her
02:56
in person if she’s too young to to sit sit up and to
03:01
understand how I’m going to communicate it to her.
03:03
Anyway I’m like let me jump down to her on her level,
03:08
let me see what’s going on in Minecraft.
03:10
So we started a Minecraft World and Minecraft is a
03:14
game that it’s a billion dollar game by the way,
03:17
purchased by Microsoft plug Microsoft.
03:21
That allows the the player to build stuff, they build
03:28
whatever they want to, they want to build a house, they
03:30
want to build a mansion, they want to dig a hole in the
03:32
ground they want to mind for diamonds.
03:34
It’s really a cool game that teaches some basic
03:38
engineering principles and life principles in general
03:41
from my perspective.
03:42
Anyway she was playing the game, I’m like let’s play a
03:44
game together and we built our world and in terms of
03:48
like strategies and things like that.
03:50
there are different strategies in the game.
03:52
My base strategy is to build a foundation and then go
03:57
explore from the foundation from that part.
04:00
So basically you build a house and you stuff all your
04:03
stuff that you have in the house kind of like we are
04:05
today in our society and I’m like, I want to show her that
04:09
there’s another way to live and let’s try something
04:13
different, let’s just only get to the necessities that we need.
04:18
Let’s build a bed, let’s build a crafting table, so we can
04:22
make some of the advanced stuff that we need to make.
04:24
Let’s build a furnace so we can cook the food and let’s
04:27
build a fireplace and and some other and let’s get some
04:30
tools, so maybe some weapons or some mining tools
04:33
and that’s it.
04:34
We’ll take that if that stuff and then we’ll just go, we’ll
04:37
just go out there and see what there is to see and not
04:41
worry about that starting place that we have.
04:43
So that way it allows us to explore more of what the
04:47
virtual world had to offer instead of just living in that immediate area.
04:51
And then when night time came running back in and
04:54
that was such a profound thing for me as a dad,
04:58
because now we’re able to communicate on her terms
05:01
and she’s telling me, hey dad, you need to do this or
05:03
why don’t we go back here and do this.
05:05
Oh actually this this is much better in terms of
05:08
situations and were able to actually play out some real
05:11
life scenarios, you know, people exploring life and
05:14
explain the world and I thought that was extremely
05:18
amazing and powerful and I was probably able to reach
05:21
her a lot more than I would have had
05:24
I just sat down and had a lecture and said, don’t talk to
05:27
strangers, don’t pet the puppy, don’t take the two and
05:31
come out the you know the man’s hand of the
05:33
strangers here and and you know, you take that and
05:36
you kind of correlate that to your customers and your business.
05:40
So your customers, you may have a amazing product.
05:45
Any customer that’s in your ideal business space, if
05:48
they touch your product and they use it for a little bit.
05:51
Their business turns to gold. It’s like the goose that lays
05:54
the golden eggs.
05:54
so to say however if you’re not communicating to them
06:00
how they communicate or how they can receive or their
06:02
“love language” then and the same thing can occur.
06:06
They may shut you out. So you have to be, you have to
06:10
pay attention to how your customers are receiving and
06:14
giving accolades and praise.
06:16
So in that scenario it may be like you give a webinar, it
06:20
may be in a situation where you you write a blog post
06:23
because some people inherently like to read, they like
06:26
to highlight stuff and maybe in a situation like this
06:29
where you make a video and you communicate with people visually.
06:33
There’s so many different ways that customers communicate.
06:36
So just because the customers aren’t necessarily biting
06:39
on one platform or one style of communication, it
06:41
doesn’t necessarily mean that they’re not going to bite
06:43
or they’re not going to follow you.
06:45
It just may mean that you may need to try something a
06:48
little bit different.
06:49
Anyway, I’d love to hear your thoughts on the topic. My
06:52
name is Edward Ferguson.
06:53
And don’t forget the good thing to like and subscribe
06:57
and to comment below.
